Review by: Kai S. Author: Neil Gailman Number of pages: 224 pages 10-word summary: A prequel to the Sandman series. Extremely interesting and ingenious. Rating: 4 stras Review: The book, on the whole, was a magnificent work of art, both visually and story-wise, and there really didn't seem to be anything wrong with it. That is, until the end. I won't spoil it, but the way that the problem is solved in the end seems like a bit of a cop-out, and it was clear that the author had written himself into a corner. Also, being a prequel, this book made use of many characters and ideas that would be confusing and unknown to a reader without a certain knowledge of the main Sandman series. Favorite quotation: "Once every month, George Portcullis has a most peculiar and recurring dream. The dream contains a number of things that make it peculiar. For a start, when he is not dreaming, his name is definitely NOT George Portcullis. He is certain of that. Perhaps, when he is awake, he is a woman. Or a child. Or a butterfly." - Page 11
